The San Jose Sharks face the Calgary Flames with both teams looking to end rough seasons on a high note. The Sharks have a 19-53-9 record and with only three wins in their last 10 games, they have the worst record in the Western Conference. The Flames have a 37-39-5 record and with only four wins in their final 10 games, they will finish the season at the best with the fifth-best record in the Pacific Division and well out of the playoffs. Both teams look to end this difficult season with a win and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

Sharks have been awful on both ends of the ice

The Sharks are wrapping up an awful season where their offense let them down, scoring only 2.21 goals per game with only four goals in the last two games. Mikael Granlund and William Eklund have combined for 28 goals and 76 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only eight skaters have scored 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled while the defense has also been a disaster, allowing 3.96 goals per game including 15 goals in the last two games. Jan Rutta and Mario Ferraro have combined for 4.2 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. The hope is that Georgi Romanov puts together a strong performance in the net as he saved 15 of the 16 shots he faced in his first game of the season.

Flames hope offense ends the season on a high note

The Flames are wrapping up a rough season where their offense was a bright spot, scoring 3.06 goals per game with 13 goals in their last three games. Nazem Kadri and Yegor Shangovich have scored 60 goals and 74 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Blake Coleman, Mikael Backlund, and Jonathan Huberdeau have combined for 56 goals and 87 assists while defenseman MacKenzie Weegar has added 19 goals and 32 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense let them down all season, allowing 3.28 goals per game. MacKenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson have combined for 6.8 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and easily find open shots on the net. In addition, goaltender Dustin Wolf has struggled with a.891 save percentage and a 3.30 goals-against average on 450 shots with -5.6 goals saved above average.

Rating:

The Flames look to step up on their home ice and I see them dominating this game from the first period. The Flames, who average 3.06 goals per game, should create plenty of scoring chances against the Sharks, who allow 3.96 goals per game, with Nazem Kadri, Yegor Sharangovich, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Flames should limit the Sharks offense, which averages only 2.21 goals per game, with MacKenzie Weegar, Rasmus Andersson, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Dustin Wolf to make plenty of big saves. The Flames should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on their home ice.

Prediction: Flames -1.5 (+105)

Both defenses have been awful and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Sharks should create plenty of scoring chances against the Flames, who allow 3.28 goals per game, with Mikael Grandlund, William Eklund, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Flames, who have scored 13 goals in their last three games, should run up the score against the Sharks, who have allowed 15 goals in their last two games, with Nazem Kadri, Yegor Sharangovich, Blake Coleman, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush and creating open shots with effective puck movement while MacKenzie Weegar picks apart the Sharks defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.

Prediction: Over 6
